A Legacy of Opportunity

Victoria Mitchell has every reason to celebrate. She was one of four students from the inaugural class of Hixson-Lied Success Scholars to complete the program, and graduated from UNLV in 2016 with a B.S. in Business Administration.

“When I arrived at UNLV, I had many goals and aspirations…including making a difference in my community,” she reflects. “Not only for myself, but as a first-generation student it was also for my family.”

Since 2012, The Hixson-Lied Scholars Program has been making a difference in the lives of dozens of UNLV students by providing both financial and academic support from UNLV's Academic Success Center. Victoria and other Hixson-Lied Scholars are a living legacy to the philanthropy of Christina M. Hixson and the late Ernst F. Lied.

“Today, you need education first,” says Ms. Hixson, “then you have to work hard to make it. I don't really give gifts, but I do offer opportunities.”

Ms. Hixson will be opening doors for many more students — and extending her legacy — through a new UNLV charitable gift annuity. Charitable gift annuities (or CGAs) allow donors to support UNLV's mission, while receiving fixed payments for life.

Learn more about how you and UNLV can benefit from CGAs by contacting Eric Schimmoeller at 702-895-3641 or plannedgiving@unlv.edu.
